About the Library
Location:
The library is located on the first floor occupying an area of about 8,100 sq.feet. and a reading room with a seating capacity of more than 200. With a view to maximizing the efficiency of the library services, the library has been divided into various sections. Open Access facility is available in the Study Room Section, Home Issue Section, Reference Section, Periodical Section as well as the Self Financing Courses Section.
Sections:
1. Study Room Section – Books are issued to students for use in the reading room only. This section has a unique rolling rack system for stacking the books. Students are issued a Bar-coded Library card called Study Room Card for using this section.
2. Home Issue Section – Books are given for home issue for seven days. Students are issued a Bar-coded Library card called Home Issue Card for using this section.
3. Reference Section – Reference books are issued to be read in the reference section reading room only. A separate reading area has been allotted for the Research Scholars and Faculty members in this section. This section has open access for students and faculty.
4. Internet Section – The Internet Section is located within the Reference section. The library subscribes to MTNL Broadband 4Mbps Internet connection. Two computer terminals have been made available to the students and research scholars. Plans are underway to increase the number of computers terminals. The internet facility is provided for educational purposes only. Library charges Rs. 10/- per hour for UG students, whereas for the PG students the service is provided free.
5. Vaze Vision: E-Resources Section for Visually Challenged Students - This newly inaugurated section is located in the Reference Section. This section has three computers (and headphones) with dedicated talking software for assisting the visually challenged students to use computers for accessing online resources on the internet as well as specially designed talking books and e-books. This section also has books in Braille.
6. Self Financing Courses Section – Students from the self financed programmes are provided Study Room and Home Lending services through this section. The collection in this section around 6,500 books caters to all the self financed courses conducted by the college covering subject areas like Accounting, Finance, Banking, Insurance, Management studies, Mass media, Biotechnology, Information Technology, etc.
7. Periodicals Section – This section houses journals, magazines, newspapers, question paper sets. Students are issued the above materials for reading room use only. The library subscribes to around 105 print journals and magazines, and 19 newspapers in English, Marathi and Hindi. This section has open access for students and faculty.
8. Multimedia Room - The multimedia room has 23 computers of the latest configuration with broadband internet connectivity. This room is made available for lectures, students’ presentations, seminars, practicals, demonstrations, etc.
Library Timings:
Library remains open from Monday to Saturday between 7.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. During vacations, the library remains open from 9am to 5.00 p.m.
Computerization of the Library: - The library network comprises one server and 10 nodes. The Library uses the SOUL 2.0 Software developed by INFLIBNET. Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) provides access to the bibliographic database. Students are issued bar-coded library cards at the beginning of the academic year. Majority of the books in the active collection have been bar-coded. New arrivals are processed, bar-coded and made available for circulation in their respective sections. Books not in regular use, i.e. the passive collection, are being bar-coded in a phased manner. Circulation activities to students as well as staff have been automated.
